Trump hovers over McCain, Rubio U.S. Senate re-election contests

Republican voters in Arizona and Florida are expected to pick Senators John McCain and Marco Rubio as their respective U.S. Senate nominees when they go to the polls on Tuesday, but one name not on either ballot, Donald Trump, looms large.
The Republican presidential nominee has endorsed both McCain and Rubio in their re-election bids even though he has rocky relations with both senators.

Car bomb kills five soldiers outside Somali president's palace: police

A car bomb claimed by al Shabaab Islamist militants killed five soldiers outside the president's palace in the Somali capital of Mogadishu and badly damaged two nearby hotels, police said.
Reuters witnesses said gunfire could be heard after the explosion and a huge cloud of smoke could be seen above the president's palace, outside which were the remnants of the car and splattered blood.

Nickel Discovery in Kaduna: Ministry appeals to Nigerians to be Patient

Nickel ChunkThe Ministry of Solid Minerals Development has appealed to Nigerians to be patient and allow it to come up with detailed report on the discovery of Nickel in Dangoma, a town in the North West area of Kaduna State.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mohammed Abbas.
According to the statement, since the first discovery many months ago, technical experts from the ministry have been following up on the development as provided by law.

They claimed that the explosion caused extensive damage to all the houses in the village besides ruining their farmlands and other means of livelihood, only for the company, working for the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, which constructed the pipeline, to simply evacuate its equipment after the incident and leave.

He urged the president to fulfill the campaign promises made by him and his party – All Progressive Congress (APC), adding that “may it not be written on the pages of history that Nigerians die of starvation under your watch”.

Scientists have discovered a planet that appears to be similar to Earth circling the star closest to the sun, potentially a major step in the quest to find out if life exists elsewhere in the universe, research published on Wednesday showed.
The relative proximity of the planet, known as Proxima b, gives scientists a better chance to eventually capture an image of it, to help them establish whether it has an atmosphere and water, which is believed to be necessary for life.
