FG workers threaten strike over unpaid salary arrears

LAGOS — FEDERAL senior civil servants have threatened to down tools over unpaid salary arrears, appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari to direct immediate payment of their backlog of salaries and allowances. The workers said their patience had been overstretched.
Speaking through their umbrella body, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, ASCSN, the workers said the current state of affairs in the country, where sufferings had been lifted to a frightening level, was the time to settle the  arrears to calm all frayed nerves and restore normalcy in the system.

EU: No alternative to democracy in Turkey

104 plotters killed in Turkey coup attempt - army

Mourners stream past coffin of black man killed by police

(Max Becherer, AP)Baton Rouge - A steady stream of mourners on Friday filed past the coffin of Alton Sterling, the 37-year-old black man who was shot to death by police as he was pinned to the pavement outside a convenience store.
The grieving paused in front of Sterling's open coffin, which was adorned with music notes and a smiling photo of the man. Sterling was selling CDs outside the store, as he had done for years, when he was killed by police responding to a call of a man threatening someone with a gun.
One mourner wore a T-shirt that said "No Justice, No Peace" on the back of it. Another carried a poster board sign saying: "Black America I'm Sorry!!"
